mitchells osteopathic journey

Ever since a young age, movement, health, and fitness have always intrigued me. However, it was only after witnessing the seemingly magical effects of Osteopathy, that I realised, this was the career for me. When watching my Dad receive treatment, I was amazed at how, what looked like just moving a joint around and giving a massage could have such a significant effect on both physical and psychological health. Once I started studying Osteopathy, I very quickly realised there was much more to it than this.

In 2023, I graduated with a first-class honours degree in Osteopathy from Swansea University. During this time, seeing the positive impact that Osteopathy had on all aspects of life was very rewarding, and only enhanced my enthusiasm towards the profession. I gained specific interests in functional movement, and how the body is interconnected by dynamic myofascial chains. Experiences gained whilst at Swansea such as delivering guest lectures and treating a wide variety of patients, only helped to reaffirm my previous thoughts of Osteopathy.

I have experienced the benefits of Osteopathy in my own life as well. As a national level track and field athlete, attempting to keep my body in optimal condition is extremely important (although this is sometimes easier said than done). Due to my background as an athlete, I feel I have a good appreciation for the complexity of the human body, as well as both the physical and psychological aspects of health and recovery. I therefore like to ensure that all aspects of a patients’ health and wellbeing are accounted for.

The holistic nature of Osteopathy and adaptability of approaches that we use, means that no matter what the end goal is, or what stage of life someone is in, there is something that can benefit everyone.

I jumped at the opportunity to move to Canada. The outdoor lifestyle and the beautiful open spaces that Canada possesses, is something that really appeals to me. The ability to compete in track and field or play golf in the summer but also ski in the winter, means there is always something to keep me occupied, although the cold winters may take a bit of acclimatising to!
